Cargo Theft Prevention Help protect your freight and yourself through proper planning and by following these simple steps:    • Be aware of high-theft areas.    • Drive at least 4 hours and 150 miles or more after pickup before stopping.    • Use a pad lock after seal is applied. Also apply another seal on vent door to keep thieves from peeking into your trailer.    • Have a friend or another Landstar BCO keep an eye on your truck while you are in truck stop. When you stop to fuel or rest:    • Use kingpin and trailer locks to protect your equipment and an air-cuff lock to guard your truck every time you stop.    • Be aware. Pay close attention to both vehicles and people at truck stops. You and your truck are most vulnerable the first 30 minutes you walk away from your truck.    • Park under lights whenever possible. Thieves usually avoid well-lit areas.    • Don’t leave a spare set of keys in cup holder or ashtray – hide them or take them with you.    • If possible, back your trailer against a fence, door or wall.
